Cancer Rehab

Individualised physiotherapy can benefit at all stages following diagnosis.

Current medical studies emphasise the importance of maintaining exercise & physical activity during active cancer treatment and beyond, however, this can be very difficult when you are feeling unwell or are unsure what might be safe.

No matter what your previous levels of physical activity were we will work together to create a realistic individualised plan to maximise possible treatment outcomes & keep you in the roles that are important to you.

The physical effects of both cancer itself and the treatment can be significant, but research shows individualised physiotherapy programs can be beneficial at any stage following a cancer diagnosis.

PREHABILITATION/ PRESURGERY

Knowledge is power so providing a good understating of how your specific treatment plan may affect you & how to maximise your treatment effects can help lower anxiety.

REHAB DURING ACTIVE TREATMENT

Current medical research shows many benefits of maintaining activity levels or exercise during active cancer treatment.

It can help:

*maintain range of movement and muscle strength

*reduce fatigue & pain levels

*prevent post-operative complications

*improve sleep, general mood and support 'chemo brain'

SURVIVORSHIP

Once active treatment is completed and follow-up by the medical team stops survivors often report feeling unsure of how to move forward. Targeted therapy can help manage the ongoing side effects of treatment & provide education that empowers survivors to move from the medical system to thrive and return to the meaningful roles they play in society & family.

METASTATIC DISEASE & PALLIATIVE CARE

New medical evidence shows that exercise & increased physical activity is safe and shows benefit for people who are living with metastatic disease or a life-limiting diagnosis. Individualised programs can help limit the rate of decline in strength and function helping to maintain quality of life. Therapy can be completed in palliative settings where gains can be made from gentle exercise or pain management techniques.
