Scar Therapy &
Post- Surgical Care

All scars, whether they are from an accident, burn, a planned or emergency surgery, or cosmetic procedure can benefit from scar therapy. Treatment modalities might include gentle, pain-free massage, Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT), moisturisers, and silicone products.

Ideally, scar therapy should begin once the scar is fully healed (stitches out) but positive responses have been seen in scars many years old. Scars may be inevitable at a site of injury or surgery, however, increasing medical knowledge in this area is leading to treatments that can change the effect the scar has on body tissues and on how we perceive them.

Tightness, pulling, colour, pain, and altered sensation can all be affected by gentle scar tissue massage & Low-Level Laser Therapy.

The aim of scar therapy is to integrate the scar with normal tissue and clients often report feeling 'more like themselves' again.

Post Operative Swelling

Swelling is normal for the body following surgery as part of the healing process. If it is 'too much or too long' it will affect joint mobility & normal function. A short course of manual lymphatic drainage massage & individualised compression can help remove unwanted swelling. This therapy combination is often advocated after cosmetic procedures as it is effective & gentle on the healing body.
